Recently, the National Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Ministry of Education jointly released the shortlist of “5G+ Smart Education” application pilot project in 2021. The project of “construction project of 5G+ virtual simulation and verification training center of Liaoning University of Technology” submitted by our university was successfully selected.
In September 2021, the National Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Ministry of Education jointly launched the application of the “5G+ Smart Education” project, mainly focusing on the key links of education and teaching such as “teaching, examination, evaluation, university and management”, and set up multiple application directions such as “5G+ Interactive Teaching”, “5G+ Smart Examination”, “5G+ Comprehensive Evaluation”, “5G+ Smart Campus” and “5G+ Regional Educational Management”. After the joint evaluation of the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Liaoning Province, the Department of Education of Liaoning Province and the Communication Administration of Liaoning Province, the project submitted by our university was recommended to the National Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. 109 of the 1244 application projects submitted nationwide were selected into the national pilot list. Our university was the only provincial university selected in Liaoning Province.
The project of our university belonged to the category of “5G+ Interactive Teaching”. The project was mainly to build platforms such as digital manufacturing virtual simulation center, industrial and Internet virtual simulation center, software test and evaluation virtual simulation verification center, robot simulation verification center and big data virtual simulation center under the 5G environment. With the support of 5G and other information technologies, it could provide the software and hardware environment required by the virtual simulation experiment of hundreds of courses; meet the teaching needs of practical links such as course experiment, course design, graduation design, professional skill training and innovation competition; improve the ability of our university to cultivate applied talents and serve local economic construction effectively; and realize the deep integration of campus information construction and education and teaching of our university.
Our university continuously strengthened information construction in recent years. While selected into the national “5G+ Smart Education” application pilot project successfully, the university was approved as a pilot university of digital campus in Liaoning Province in 2021; approved the special fund for digital economy development of Liaoning Province; approved as the excellent typical case university of IPv6 scale deployment and application of education system in Liaoning Province. In the next stage, our university would make full use of information technology, especially 5G technology, to realize the innovative exploration of education mode under the condition of informatization, the systematic construction of network security, the intelligent connection of information resources, the digital transformation of campus environment, the adaptive development of users’ information literacy and the digital transformation of core business. Our university would promote the informatization of education to support and lead the development of education modernization; create a networked, digital, intelligent, personalized and lifelong education and teaching environment; promote the in-depth integration and innovative application of information technology and talent training of colleges and universities, scientific research, cultural inheritance and innovation, social services, international exchanges and other aspects; improve the quality of education and teaching and the level of scientific research services; and cultivate high-quality talents with innovative spirit and practical ability.
